Former SC State Senator Vincent Sheheen today announced his intention to run for the office of Mayor of the City of Camden on a platform of controlling sprawl, improving utilities and attracting new tourism for small business growth.
“From the courthouse to the statehouse, I’ve spent a career in public service working for the people,” said Sheheen. “Now it’s time to bring those skills home to help this great city live up to its true potential.”
“Camden is home to me. It’s where I was born, where I learned right from wrong and where my wife and I raised our children. Camden has given us so much. Now it’s time to give back.”
A lifelong resident of Camden, Sheheen has served in numerous leadership and nonprofit roles including prosecutor for the City of Camden, member of the S.C. House of Representatives and State Senator. Among his accomplishments, Sheheen introduced and passed the bill that removed the Confederate Flag from the State House grounds, helped push four-year old kindergarten across the State, introduced and passed the Restructuring Act of 2014, created the Office of Inspector General and chaired the Infrastructure Improvement Committee in 2016/2017 which allocated increased funding for our state’s roads.
