The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) is urging all residents to take active steps to prepare for the upcoming statewide primaries on June 11, 2024. With important dates approaching, it's essential for voters to be informed and ready.
Register by the Deadline
Voters must be properly registered at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Those registering in person must do so by 5:00 pm on Friday, May 10, 2024. The deadline for registering by email, by fax, and online is 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Registrations sent by mail must be postmarked by Monday, May 13, 2024.
Verify your Election Day Polling Location
Voters are encouraged to verify their assigned polling place at scVOTES.gov before heading to the polls on Election Day. Polls will be open from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. Those who are in line by 7:00 pm will be allowed to vote.
Obtain a Valid Photo ID
When voting in person, you must present one of the following current and valid photo IDs:
- S.C. Driver's License (includes standard license and REAL ID)
- S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card (includes standard ID card, REAL ID, and S.C. Concealed Weapons Permit)
- S.C. Voter Registration Card with Photo
- Federal Military ID (includes all Department of Defense Photo IDs and Veterans Affairs Benefits Card)
- U.S. Passport (includes U.S. Passport ID Card)
Early Voting
The early voting period for the statewide primaries begins on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, and ends on Friday, June 7, 2024. Early voting centers will be open from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm and will be closed on weekends and state holidays. Early voting locations include:
- Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections headquarters - 4340 Corporate Road, North Charleston, S.C. 29405
- Essex Village Church of Christ - 736 Savage Road, Charleston, S.C. 29414
- Wando Mount Pleasant Library - 1400 Carolina Park Boulevard, Mount Pleasant, S.C. 29466
Absentee Voting
Those who are qualified and are looking to vote absentee must visit or call BVRE’s headquarters at 843-744- VOTE (8683) to request an absentee ballot application. The deadline to return a completed absentee ballot application is 5:00 pm on Friday, May 31. Absentee ballots must be returned to BVRE headquarters by 7:00 pm on Election Day to be counted.
