A Berkeley County Grand Jury today indicted former Summerville Police Officer Anthony DeLustro (pictured) for attempted kidnapping and murder charges related to a shooting outside of a Summerville Chick-fil-A.
On March 20th, 2024 DeLustro, 64, an off-duty member of the Summerville Police Department (SPD), allegedly attempted to kidnap Michael O’Neal, 39, and then shot and killed him. Shortly after the killing, SPD Chief Doug Wright, requested that the case be independently investigated by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), who arrested and charged DeLustro on April 10th with murder.
The indictments show that 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson sought the additional attempted kidnapping charge.
In South Carolina, murder carries a minimum penalty of 30 years in prison to a maximum of life in prison. Attempted kidnapping carries a penalty of up to thirty years in prison.
