Applications are now open for Phase III of the Charleston Homes Program, which invites interested parties, including nonprofit organizations and private entities with experience in the production of affordable housing, to submit site-specific applications to rehabilitate existing dwellings into livable affordable housing units. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2024, at 5 pm.
Selected recipients are responsible for all upfront costs of the project. Upon project completion, the properties will be deeded over to the partner organizations who will manage the sale, rental, or other use of the properties as affordable housing for income-eligible residents.
Phase III of the program includes the following properties:
- 1980 Dogwood Road, Charleston, S.C. 29412
- 2225 Doris Drive, Charleston, S.C. 29414
- 7646 Allwood Avenue, North Charleston, S.C. 29418
- 6992 Vista Court, North Charleston, S.C. 29406

- 6306 Brandt Street, Charleston, S.C. 29406
- 9789 Peatwood Drive, Ladson, S.C. 29456
Interested parties may submit separate applications for more than one property, but selected applicants will only be assigned one. In-person or virtual site visits must be completed as part of the application process and will be facilitated by county staff.
In total, 16 properties purchased from the Charleston County Housing and Redevelopment Authority have been made available for rehabilitation through the Charleston Homes Program. The program is being offered in four phases, two of which have now been completed.
