The public is invited to Mary Martin Gallery on December 1st for the opening reception of “CLEVIS & CASTER” by Nelson Grice, which will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm at 103 Broad Street.
The exhibition showcases Grice’s unique fusion of industrial tools and equipment into innocuous animal sculptures, crafted from clay and bronze. Inspired by the juxtaposition of joy and macabre, Grice’s art captures the imagination with its innovative blend of mechanical parts and organic forms. His sculptures, often reminiscent of early morning thoughts, create a captivating tension that challenges traditional perceptions of art. Grice’s signature piece “The Piper” a bronze sculpture, 26 x 16 x 18, is the one who always calls the artist’s shows to order.
Nelson Grice’s artistic process is akin to a child playing with toy blocks. The result is a collection that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to explore the intricate interplay between man-made machinery and the natural world.
Notably, Grice takes pride in overseeing his own foundry work, ensuring each sculpture reflects his precise vision. Animals, a recurring theme in his work, become the framework for his exploration of form, texture, and storytelling.
Join us at Mary Martin Gallery for the “CLEVIS & CASTER” opening reception, where Nelson Grice’s extraordinary sculptures will be on display Friday, December 1st, 5 pm to 8 pm.
