Chef Vivian Howard has launched daytime service on Sundays with a modern meat-n-three menu alongside creative takes on classic brunch cocktails at her downtown Charleston restaurant, Lenoir.
"Growing up on a farm in Deep Run, N.C., we never went on summer vacations," Howard said. "But as soon as tobacco season was over, dad would wake us up before the crack of dawn and tote us four hours west to be the first people in line at a restaurant that greeted us with ham biscuits as soon as we sat down. In that spirit, we’re bringing Sundays at Lenoir full circle with a bona fide country meat-and-three, complete with ham biscuits and dessert."
From noon to 8 pm every Sunday at Lenoir, guests will start their meals with Country Ham Biscuits with Apple Preserves and White Cheddar and then select one entree from among such offerings as Fried Chicken with Hot Honey, Tomato Pie, and Blueberry BBQ chicken.
To go with their entree, guests will chose three sides from such options as Sweet Potato Mash, Peas and Rice, Mess of Greens, the seasonal Salad of the Moment, Cornbread Fritters with Apple Butter, or French Fries. Diners will end their meal with a seasonal dessert; right now the offering is Apple Cobbler with Ice Cream.
A limited number of regular menu items also will be available, including Fried Collards, Blueberry BBQ Chicken Wings, and the K-town Burger and Fries.
Lenoir's cocktail menu on Sundays will celebrate brunch-time favorites, including Mimosa, Greyhound, and Bloody Mary. New specialty cocktails, which continue Lenoir's tradition of using Southern colloquialisms as drink names, include: Straightenin’ Up (a Cold Brew cocktail); the Catawampus Mary (a Yellow Bloody Mary); Gettin' Right with God (a fizzy berry cocktail); and Took to the Bed (a riff on a French 75 infused with mandarin orange) in honor of comedian Leanne Morgan whom Howard recently interviewed for Garden and Gun magazine.
The price is $40 per person, not including drinks, tax or gratuity. Make a reservation at dineatlenoir.com.
Lenoir is located a block off King Street in downtown Charleston at 68 Wentworth St. adjacent to The Lindy Renaissance Charleston Hotel.
