On Sunday, April 7th, 2024, Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry (SHL) will screen God and Country in the auditorium at the main branch of the Charleston County Public Library (68 Calhoun Street) at 2:30 pm, followed by a brief audience discussion.
Christian nationalism is the belief that America should be defined as a Christian nation, with government adherence to this ideology. The new documentary film God and Country takes a closer look at the dangerous implications and explores how a base of Christians has radically stoked a movement erasing the line between Church and State.
God and Country speaks directly to the almost 200,000,000 Americans who identify as Christians - Christians who fear their faith is being hijacked by an extreme right wing political movement known as Christian nationalism. The film features many of the most prominent and well respected voices of Christianity. Their presence in the film will be a powerful tool in persuading Christians to watch.
Produced by Rob Reiner and directed by Dan Partland, this film has not shown in theaters in South Carolina. The film is rated PG-13 for thematic material, some violent images, and strong language. The run time is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
