For the first time, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry will be the benefactor of Charleston’s Tourism Day. The annual event is sponsored by the Charleston Tour Association (CTA). On December 2nd, participating tourism-related businesses, such as tour companies, certified tour guides and historical museums, will donate 10% of their revenue to the nonprofit organization.
Tourism Day in 2022 raised close to $7,000 for One80 Place, and the CTA is excited to include a new organization in its fundraising efforts for 2023. “We are excited to share the proceeds from the day with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry,” said Lee Ann Bain, CTA president. “This organization has such a powerful impact on our youth; we are happy to contribute to the important work that they do.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry is part of a nationwide movement that began in 1904 focusing on realizing the potential in every child. Since 2019, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry has been matching adult volunteers (bigs) with children (littles) ages seven through high school graduation age in the tri-county area. They focus on the development of positive relationships that have lasting academic and social effects on the lives of young people.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Tour Association to support more than 300 Littles, families, and mentors,” said Merridith Crowe, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry. “Thanks to efforts like this, our youth gain a strong sense of belonging and benefit from improved
academic outcomes, stronger relationships with peers and family, avoidance of risky behavior, and stronger future aspirations.”
Approximately 15 tour companies and guides will take part in Tourism Day 2023. To see the complete list of participants and book your tour, click here.
